Katherine Johnson

Birth: Aug. 26, 1918
Major Academic Events
- Johnson calculated the path for Freedom 7 which was the spacecraft that put the first U.S astronaut in space. Johnson was part of the team to calculated Apollo 11's flight, which sent the first three men to the Moon.
Major Contributions
- Johnson was part of the West Computers whose job was to analyze test data and mathematical computations to assist the space program. In addition, she worked on the first space shuttle program. She was the first woman in her division to receive credit as an author of a research report.

Alan Turing
Basic Information
Birth: Aug. 26, 1918
Major Academic Events
- He studied mathematics at the University of Cambridge. After he graduated, he was elected to a fellowship at King’s College because of his research into Probability Theory. He then moved to Princeton University to study a Ph.D.. Mathematical Logic.
Major Contributions
- He created the first complete specification electronically stored digital computer. He later became the Deputy Director of CML. He also created the “Turing Test” as a way to see if AI could truely think.
